The volcano of Methana is active and together with those of the island of Nisyros and Milos form the Volcanic Arc of the southern Aegean Sea. The site has about 30 volcanic craters. The most important and famous is located in Kameni Chora. There are approximately 60 km of signposted paths where you can observe the diversity of vegetation where wild plants alternate with pine and holly.

The history of Methana starts from Neolithic era and of course is up to date. Archaeological findings were discovered in Palaiokastro, where the acropolis of ancient Methana was located  and in Chelona Mountain. After the Second World War, Methana began to form the current tourist character.
