Kalamata is the seaside capital of Messinia in the Peloponnese. Although the population of the region reaches back to the Geometric period, Kalamata flourished since the 13th century.

Kalamata, located at the creek of the Messinian Gulf, is one of the most vibrant cities of the Peloponnese. Start your walk from the promenade of Navarino. The beach with the palm trees along the road is a decent solution for a first swim in Messinia. Here are concentrated the favorite hangouts of the locals for coffee, food and drink.

Today, the city is the second largest financial center of the Peloponnese showing keen interest to tourists, especially in the historical city center. The oil and Kalamata olives are products known worldwide.
