Opposite of the entrance of the castle is located the Archaeological Museum which is housed in the old city's prison. The most important exhibits of the museum are the shrine bears with hunting scenes of the Late Minoan period and the marble statue of Venus, built in the 1st century AD.

The old city hosts many monuments worth seeing. The most important is the Rimondi Fountain at Square Petihaki, constructed in 1629, the Venetian Loggia, built in the late 16th century and the mosque Neranje. Mosque Neranje is the conversion result of the Venetian church of Santa Maria during the capture of the city by the Turks. The Folklore Museum is housed in an impressive Venetian mansion and hosts hundreds of exhibits of folk art.
