Donoussa is a small island in the southeastern Cyclades and along with Amorgos they are the easternmost islands of the Cyclades archipelagos. It has a population of 163 inhabitants and an area of 13.5 square kilometers. The highest peak on the island is Mount Papas with a height of 385 meters above mean sea level. The landscape is mainly rocky with intense engulfments.

According to Greek mythology, when Theseus left Naxos leaving behind Ariadne, Dionysus took her from Naxos and brought her to the island of Donoussa under the fear that Theseus would return. According to the archaeological findings findings that came to light from excavations in Donoussa, the island enjoyed great prosperity during the Geometric period. But later on, in the Roman times it became a site of exile and in the Medieval times became a lair for the pirates of the time.
