In Kanala is located the monastery of Virgin Mary that is the patroness of the island. The monastery is built on a top of a rock. The image of Virgin Mary is considered miraculous. Just 800 meters away from the town, is located the  monastery of Panagia Nikous. It is claimed to be built on the ruins of ancient temples and celebrates on August 15. Other remarkable churches of the island are the Virgin Flampouriani, Panagia Stratilatissa, the church of Agios Minas and Agios Savas church.

At Dryopida, in the church of St. George, is hosted the Byzantine Ecclesiastical Museum where you can explore icons and other Byzantine ecclesiastical artifacts. In the same area is also situated the Folklore Museum. Impressive natural monument is Katafyki cave with stalagmites and stalactites. In the northern part, before the Mullet peninsula are located the ruins of the Castle of Oria. The view from the hill is spectacular.

In Vryokastro are located the ruins of the ancient capital of the island who was inhabited by the 10th century BC until the 7th century AD. Another ancient settlement of the Mesolithic period and particularly the unique outdoor village ever found in Greece is located in Maroulas.
