Syros, placed at the ‘heart’ of the Aegean Sea, is part of the Cyclades complex. Geomorphologically, the island is divided at the mountainous Ano Meria in the north and the southern plains that gather all tourists in summer. The capital Ermoypoli, built on the hills around the harbor, is a scenic city.

The history of Syros starts, according to archaeological finds, at the Neolithic era. The island has witnessed a series of conquests by Persians, Romans, Venetians and Turks who affected the cultural character of the island.
