The most important attraction of the island is undoubtedly the castle. The imposing castle of Chios, made by the Byzantines, stands at the north of the harbor. The construction began in the 10th century and was completed by the Genoese in the 15th century.

Other major attractions include the Byzantine monastery Nea Moni dating back to the 10th century, Kampos on the eastern side of the island with its citrus orchards and the two-storey houses and the cave of Agios Galas. Finally, Chios hosts several museums with impressive finds that chronicle the culture of the island.
