Samos is situated in the eastern Aegean Sea and is the closest island to the shores of Asia Minor. Deposited on an ancient Greek background, this verdant island is a culture mix of the Christians and the Ottomans. It has been the birthplace for many notable personalities including Pythagoras the mathematician, the astronomer Aristarchus, the philosopher Epicurus and according to many, Aesop as well.

The island's population exceeds the 33,000 residents covering an area of 477 square km.The capital and the main port of the island is Vathy. Other significant villages are Pythagoreio, Karlovasi Vourliotes with the famous local wine, Agios Constantinos and the fishing village of Kerveli.
