Amorgos is geographically situated in the eastern part of the archipelago of Cyclades. Morphologically, the island has an elongated shape with a SW - NE direction. The total area of Amorgos is 121.5 km2 hosting about 2,000 residents. The island's history is lost in the mists of time with the first traces of habitation date from the Neolithic Age. At the Bronze Age, Amorgos was an important center during both the Cycladic civilization and the reign of the Minoans. The island is characterized by traditional Cycladic architecture with its white houses and blue openings arranged randomly in a labyrinthine network of cobbled streets. Amorgos has two harbors, Katapola and Aigiali while the capital is Chora.
