Alonnisos or Liadromia is one of the quieter islands of the Sporades archipelago. The ancient name of the island is Ikos. The ancient capital is sunk to the bottom of the sea at Kokinokastro bay. The island occupies an area of 64.5 square kilometers and has a population of 2,900 inhabitants. Patitiri is  the capital and port of the island. Other settlements of Alonnisos are Palio Chorio, former  capital that was abandoned in 1965 after the devastating earthquake, Rousoum, Votsi, SteniValla and Kalamakia.
